Phones Really Rock

I recently showed you here what an iPhone can do in portrait mode. One evening with Sue already abed and making funny noises which weren't exactly snoring and not quite blowing bubbles, I decided to see if the portrait mode on prints that hang on my wall would work

First, I focussed on Jonathan's portrait.

It worked. The phone recognized JJ as a human form. This is the result — unedited, btw.

Next was a group portrait of Sue with our two grown children. It was taken on an almost blizzardy day. Look how the phone version accentuates the snow, or maybe you won't see it at this resolution.

Finally, Dani.

Pretty interesting and impressive, whatever you think of phone photography in general. BTW, the hanging prints do look much better on the wall than they do here. The point was to demonstrate the phone's unique capability and not to highlight the original prints.

  2. Interesting effect. Does that mean you could take your grandson and add him to the other photo?

    1. That is compositing, a separate but possible thing that I have done in the past.

    2. My daughters have shown my on an iPhone anyway, how I can tap on a picture like yours above and create a sticker of a human. Then I can open up another picture and add that sticker, in essence compositing all in my iPhone camera app.

    3. I've done a couple of stickers but no compositing. My wife has a separate app for compositing, but she does a lot of it -- not with stickers though.

  4. I really do need to explore my native iPhone camera app more. I know I am only scratching the surface of what it can do, even with what my daughters have taught me.

  5. iPhone is the only one I've ever owned and I have no clue of the possibilities. I'm going to spend some time trying to learn. Thank you for opening this up to me.

  6. There is so much that my iPhone can do that I'm ignorant about. Perhaps I should take a class!

  8. I like to do this to make "stickers" to paste on text messages for extra oomph! lol

  9. That is such an interesting thing to have on your phone. My phone is old and doesn't have any of those kinds of features but I'm hoping to get a new one pretty soon.

  11. It's amazing what can be done on the iPhone. I use mine for all my photo taking, unless it's for wildlife where I need some zoom. Great photos of your family and I enjoyed the effects.
