On a recent trail walk when we were near the bridge, I looked down to spy quite a field of Queen Anne's Lace somewhat in the middle distance near where we sometimes park our car, but didn’t on that day.
That led me to look around, and when I saw more flowers near WalMart in a field by the ditch, I decided to stop. It was windy, so I decided to go with the flow (haha, literally) and shoot in Live mode and later convert to gifs.
More Queen Anne's Lace (aka Wild Carrot)
Even more of The Queen mixed with golden rod (solidago)
The invasive Purple Loosestrife
The Queen was dominant, however
I did take a still photo of a plant that was new to me. It looked a lot like Bee Balm. Sure enough, when I got home I did identify it, or Apple did, as Wild Bergamot or Wild Bee Balm. I hadn't noticed this plant before, and I think there was only only one clump, but there should me more because it is quite pretty. I think it would even look good in a rough, not too pristine, garden. I have planted Bee Balm in the distant past.
That evening, I found two varieties of thistles in the park.
Perennial Sow Thistle
Spear Thistle
On our farm, we have several old patches of remnant prairie and wildflowers that burn every couple years. There is always something blooming out there all summer long it seems.
ReplyDeleteVery nice gifs indeed. That bee balm is especially nice.
ReplyDeleteNice gifts from the Queen of Flowers! LOL! I do love the fact that they are so abundant this time of year and they smell wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI love the waving ones too!
I feel a little foolish saying this, but I'm not sure I've ever seen Queen Anne's Lace. It is pretty. I had a mare who would delicately pick the flower from thistle.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely time of year.
ReplyDeleteI loved watching the flowers in the wind. Very soothing somehow.
ReplyDeleteThe second one my family calls 'Scotch thistle'. I am so glad you use 'Queen Anne's Lace'. Wild Carrot is just not the same.
ReplyDeleteThe thistles are spectacular. Our goldfinches love them when they go to seed.
ReplyDeleteWildflowers are so pretty, and from them all our horticultural beauties were developed.
ReplyDeleteThe wild area is beautiful. Great photos of the flowers too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and gifs!
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that you are always experimenting with some editing skills or camera techniques. Great piece
ReplyDeleteOh gosh... You've brought back memories of Illinois for me.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job of shooting these flowers in live mode and turning them into gifs. How lovely to see them fluttering like this. The other flowers are smile bringers too.
ReplyDeleteYou have good knowledge of what you're seeing out there.
ReplyDeleteI’ve seen all of these except the yellow thistle…and now - when i have a moment - I want to learn how to make GIFs!
