I wanted to keep checking on the poppies, so we returned to the scene from just 4 days previously. Life moves apace, and the first poppies from that walk were at the floppy and fading stage. I did find a few fresh blooms at another house on the same block. I keep experimenting with soft backgrounds in portrait mode.
An allium from the same neighbourhood.
Once again, the phone camera did the trick. I would not have been able to shoot photos like these, with the soft background, with a normal camera unless I knew ahead of time what specific lens I would need, assuming of course, that I had such an expensive lens in my possession.

The color red in that first photo just pops with the soft background and the iPhone’s portrait mode is indeed impressive and far less bulky than a macro lens and camera.
ReplyDeleteOh what an excellent photo of the poppy! It's being saved (with Anvilcloud attribution) for a future post. I miss that my iPhone was removed from having portrait and panorama functions from my camera. Why on earth would they remove them when updating, anyway!
ReplyDeleteWhat? How could that be?
DeleteBeautiful! I must check out what my phone can do.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't looked at the functions on the iPhone for the camera. That poppy pops.
ReplyDeleteI must try using portrait on the iPhone for close up photos like you take. Are you getting the same heat we are?
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, but I wasn’t close on the shot, just zoomed in a bit.
DeleteI think poppy buds are ALMOST as pretty as the poppy, just subdued. Love the allium image!
ReplyDeleteI deliberately pointed up to get the colour and light from the tree behind. I think that made the difference.
DeleteThe poppies are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jeanie, the buds are as fun to see as the flowers!
ReplyDeleteI love your first photograph. That poppy is so vibrant.
ReplyDeleteSue did a little garden work this morning but cut it short and told me not to go out and weed.
DeleteI love the poppies and the photos you're taking with the iPhone. I need to figure my camera out. The other day I accidentally had it on cinematic and had no idea what was happening!
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThese phones take amazing photos, your poppies and allium are exquisite, great background too.
ReplyDeleteExcellent photos! The phones are so handy.
ReplyDeleteI am a bit of bokeh connoisseur myself. The effect I see is more of Gaussian blur instead.
ReplyDeleteMy two favourite flowers!
ReplyDeleteI adore poppies, and have zero luck growing them. So I will be content with your beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pleasure to be with you again among the poppies. Aloha friend
ReplyDeleteI have poppies that came up and are doing their own thing in the wildflower mess of a garden. The Sweet William flowers have taken over most of it, but does look so beautiful...just like your shots!
ReplyDeletePoppies are so fragile and gorgeous, wonderful job.
The Poppies are popping out in our garden too these days.
