As consumers, I feel we share in this responsibility.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6998770.post-56699137832072927972007-11-01T05:41:00.000-04:002007-11-01T05:41:00.000-04:00I don't understand why developing countries have t...I don't understand why developing countries have to go through all the stages of the industrial revolution. Can they not learn from the West's experience and skip some of the tragic experiences in areas such as labour, social safety net and the environment. I suspect the exploitive nature of Western economics has something to do with it.Tossing Pebbles in the Streamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04354065895900279070noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6998770.post-66285573493156539902007-10-31T20:37:00.000-04:002007-10-31T20:37:00.000-04:00Amen, AC. I am very careful when I purchase anything and I'm very much against our tendency to be a throwaway society.

It's always the children who pay the highest price for our mistakes. If people would picture their own children in these sweatshops before they lay their money down, they might change their minds about how they shop.Pamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14040757371778588395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6998770.post-24322828873865504222007-10-30T19:32:00.000-04:002007-10-30T19:32:00.000-04:00Thanks for posting this reminder to us to be caref...Thanks for posting this reminder to us to be careful of what we buy. Can you just imagine how all the billions of dollars thrown away in this horrible Iraq war could have gone to alleviate some of this injustice. I will never forgive Bush for taking us down this path.Ginniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12749133391349265563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6998770.post-42152836120542464892007-10-30T18:34:00.000-04:002007-10-30T18:34:00.000-04:00Our society's insatiable appetite for cheap, throw...Our society's insatiable appetite for cheap, throw-away goods pushes companies to reduce production costs. Every time Walmart lowers its prices, someone pays. But it may be the worker in the third world country who pays the biggest price. Shame on the Gap. Their prices are not all that inexpensive so someone is padding their pockets. I try to shop very carefully now and pay attention to where my product was made.Ruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15892804871759397018noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6998770.post-78629849967682035452007-10-30T18:32:00.000-04:002007-10-30T18:32:00.000-04:00I fully agree with what you are saying. My mother had to leave school at 14 and go into service and this was only in the 30's.ChrisBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06958330170295676200noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6998770.post-89013323204680723862007-10-30T17:23:00.000-04:002007-10-30T17:23:00.000-04:00Hear hear!Hear hear!Ginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11604097511444010759noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6998770.post-35517958377351086832007-10-30T09:14:00.000-04:002007-10-30T09:14:00.000-04:00I buy a lot of things from overseas. One of the things I do is make sure it is a fair trade company I am buying from.

In my opinion, any US company that is engaging in these unfair practices should be shut down and kicked out.

There's no justification for exploitation of labor... child or otherwise.thailandchanihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10171731740204067889noreply@blogger.com
