We Have Cat

We interrupt our ongoing birthday event to bring you ... cat.

It has been seven years since we said goodbye to Rocky, who was a great cat. As you can tell by the elapsed time, as much as we loved Rocky, we weren't in the market for another cat.

But there was a cat in need. One of Shauna's senior residents had an old, fat cat that she could no longer care for. Since people don't exactly queue for adopting 15 year old, fat cats, we decided that we had to open our house.

She's sweet and gentle.

And very fat. I have never seen such a fat cat. Waddling about is a chore for her, but somewhat surprisingly, she has managed the stairs. Carefully and clumsily, but she manages.

One very round cat.

When we see her drink water, she is doing it in the Roman way -- lying at the table, so to speak.

They did send her bed to us, and we put it by the patio door. After a day, she found it and likes it there. She will even haul her body downstairs to avail herself of it.

When we're watching tv, I haul her up to my lap, for she can't get there on her own, and we have a good cuddle.

I don't know how long she has spent in one room in the seniors residence, but we hope that a larger place with stairs will improve her health. However long this old cat might be with us, we hope for happy, sunny days for her.

She is named, Bella, but I'm not sure that will fly around this house where animals tend to assume various names as the whim warrants. So far, Miss Arbuckle is getting some play.

You have done a very good deed by taking in this senior feline and, from the photos, she already seems to have adapted to her new home. And now younalso have a new photo subject. As for a new name, perhaps open it to suggestions from fellow bloggers?

Well I hope you will all be very happy together. She looks happy already. No cats for me, even though I'd like one. DIL is very allergic to furry animals and she would never visit me, and I can't have that.

A fine kind action! And, I agree, a mighty fat cat. Love the photos.

I'm sure the vet has a senior cat diet just for Belle. OMGooness.

Oh my goodness! What a coincidence that I just this morning have had the opportunity to see what was going on in blog world. Yours is the first I checked after months and months. And I find that you have rescued an older cat. We just rescued a 14 year old Briard dog whose elderly owner passed away. It seems you and Sue are enjoying your rescue as much as we are ours! Good for you!

I showed my husband Belle's picture. He laughed and commented that she was the "ultimate fur ball".

Ah. Good for you for taking her in. It's tough when cats get spoiled and gain weight. Not that I can throw stones!
