In Paths of Glory

I rambled through the woods several times a day, at least on some days, and I suppose that I communed with nature in my own small way. I certainly experienced a kind of joy on more than one occasion.

There are cleared paths that wind through the forest, and I kept seeing glimpses of colour here and there.

The colour isn't always up but down too.

But the treetops are rather fetching as well.

This is what we sometimes call Maple Lane. The trees form something on an arch here, and JJ referred to it as a cathedral when we took him through here (lost photos). The arch had been even more splendorous a few days earlier when fewer leaves had fallen, but those photos are gone.

Just off the western edge of the property, I came to a sandy ares, call it sand dunes or a sand pit if you will. The previous owner had a No Trespassing sign, but since it had been taken down down, I ventured onto the property this time. I didn't stay long or trespass much beyond the edge, but I did snap a few photos, one of which I am posting..

I wonder how long the the pits have been denuded of vegetation? Surely not since the last ice age, or I would think they'd been more eroded. I am thinking that the pits haven't re-established vegetation since the area was forested, however long ago that might have been: 60 years, 80 years?

Those are my leaf-colour photos for today. I hope you enjoyed our little stroll.

Gorgeous area and great photos. Too bad you lost some, especially those of the kids.

You have posted some really nice photos of your cottage area in the last 3 posts, all super views. Autumn is really the "season of mists and mellow fruitfulness" isn't it?

Belated Happy Thanksfiving, John, and what a beautiful environment to have celebrated. To say it's picture perfect would be an under statement. The maple trees did make a lovely cathedral indeed.
