Colours in Decline but Still Pretty Good

I thought that I might be done with autumn colour, but it was still okay when I rambled through our nearby trail the other day: definitely in decline but also still looking good to me. I opted to take the little camera (ostensibly Sue's camera but we share from time to time) and was pretty pleased with the results. I can still shoot in RAW format, which is a big plus for me, compared to most compact cameras. The results are more than satisfactory although not as sharp as I would get from my DSLR and very good wide angle lens. But I don't always want to carry that kit around on a regular old walk.

The water is still very low due to the drought. In fact, it is getting dangerously low, and people upriver who rely on well water are getting worried about its quality. These rocks would not be visible in most years, or if partially visible, I certainly wouldn't be able to scrabble around on them.

That part of the trail is open although you have to get off the path to actually get to the river. Farther along, it is woodsy. Once again, although many leaves have been dropped and expose plenty of bare branches, good colour still remains although not for very much longer.

At the other end, the view opens up once again, but just briefly before turning inland into a park. Once again, we wouldn't expect to see the foreground rocks being exposed, or at least  not very much.

Edit: Found this map of water conditions in southern Ontario. We are in the heart of the red zone.

We have torrential rains today. Wish we could share what we've had the last two weekends.

I love the leaves against the sky and the water. Such a beautiful place. It makes one breathe deeply just to see the pictures.

Our trees are just starting to turn, but the prior drought and the tremendous winds yesterday have brought down many of the leaves already. I did enjoy my hike last week as I posted. This time of year last such a short few days!!

Rain for the last couple of days but probably not enough to ease the drought. That river looks very low. Very windy yesterday, The little tree outside my back window was a vivid red and yellow on Friday but is now completely naked!

I have been loving your fall photos! I think it's the only way I'll see a full-on colourful autumn this year. Am in Maryland right now, and their fall has been too warm to go to colours yet.

It looks much like western North Carolina -- and we too are in a drought.

Your fall color is almost gone and we are still pretty "green" here in North Central Indiana. We have had lots of rain lately, and not much cold. No frost yet which is unusual for us by 10/26. The weatherman said a warming trend for the weekend. I had the furnace on last Saturday when my wee granddaughter Anna was here visiting. Otherwise it's off and I am getting by with the fireplace. Very unusual, indeed!
Beautiful pictures. No matter what kind of camera you seem to use, you get very wonderful photos.

Are you out there shooting snow scenes? I noticed that the Mississippi is up a bit at Clydesville. And we have a few trickles in the stream that runs below the house site. And a fine carpet of leaves under the snow. Ah well. It was marvellous while it lasted.

We have had such a dry year--dry summer, dry fall--that our leaf colors are most muted. And the trees have turned at such different rates that we aren't get the wide sweep of color.
I do so love autumn, and this one has been a bit of a disappointment. Mostly too hot, and definitely too dry.
Love your pics--thanks for them.
