Morning Shots

There was a time when Sue and I had similar sleep habits. We'd go to bed and get up around the same time as each other. Having said that, as the teaching years went on, she'd usually let me have mornings to myself. I was up and out quickly back then, so it's not as though we missed much companionship.

As we aged even more, I began to need less sleep. Actually, I might need as much sleep as before, but I just don't get it.

At the same time, she began to require more.

She can require up to 10 hours, and I often don't sleep for much more than 5 hours. She goes to bed first, often by hours, and I am up to get her coffee ready in the morning.

As I write this, I awoke at 3 this morning although I managed to stay in bed until closer to 4.

I was able to check email, read blogs, post to Flickr, follow my Flickr contacts, check my Twitter feed, and look in on Facebook before heading out ~5:15.

Fortunately, both the light and weather are fine in summer, so driving around for a shoot is feasible.

I have a few shots from three different, recent mornings. You have seen others not so long ago. The first batch is from just last week.

From this morning (as I write although I will post it later).

Those were nearby rural roads. The next two are from the park in town, looking downriver.

I don't really like either of those two previous photos, so I will post two, below, that I took from almost exactly the same spot on the evening before.

So lovely--there are perks to waking up early, especially when you catch these lovely dawn photos. Remember the Odyssey? "Rosy-fingered dawn"?

I completely understand the diverging sleep patterns. When we worked, my husband & I kept similar schedules. Now, he retires early--some time in the 10 p.m. zone and falls to sleep IMMEDIATELY upon laying his head on the pillow.
Me on the other hand....I can hardly settle down before midnight. And if I am lucky, sleep until 8-ish. But lately sleep has managed to dodge me a fair bit. Last night, for example, 3 hours. But it's erratic. And I am not thrilled about it.

Divergent sleep patterns appear to be the norm as we age. It is in this house anyway. Not fun but at least we still are looking at the green side of the sod. .

Waking up early has its up side as shown in these images, John.

I was up at 6:00, hubby not.
He usually has an afternoon nap, too.
I'd like to have my coffee and go canoeing, but there are do damn many tourists!
