Cursive

I saw this on FB the other day and was just reminded of it on another blog, so, this time, I grabbed the image.

Even though I didn't do anything with it when I first saw the image, it did stick with me: to the point where I used the same joke on Sue. Verbally, it was a weak attempt at humour to be sure, and I had to explain to my perplexed wife what I was on about.

Anyway, as humourous as the message may or may not be, it is not true, for I was reminded of Danica when she was still in JK (junior kindergarten).

Danica was a very early reader. One day she picked up something that I or someone had written down. Up until then, she had only read standard printing. But darned if she didn't read the cursive without a hitch.

She was so advanced that she was sometimes picked to read in assemblies, even when she was still in kindergarten, but the odd and somewhat disappointing thing is that she is not, presently, an avid reader.

We shall see what the future holds.

This post has really gotten around the world, as I just saw it on another post, and have the photo saved as well. No cursive in the schools around here.

Lol. I think this may be true in the decades to come. Have a great weekend.

My cursive is already a code. It has degenerated to the point I myself often can't read it. Grocery lists are a particular challenge.

Oh too funny! I just had it on my post today!

My granddaughter is quite bright, but I remember her seeing some cursive a couple of years ago and feeling like she couldn't read it. :-)

I think my maternal grandmother had learned that early on: her first ever letter to me is nearly impossible to read. Even after all these years I have trouble with it!

I understand the humour, but I think the poor grammar is a much better indicator of the literacy of the next generation. And while we're on the topic, am I the only one appalled by the team slogan of the Toronto Raptors?

WE THE NORTH

Let's all loosen our pant waists, shall we? And try to look like inner city black youth, and thugs.

it is a discussion, isn't it?! It's faster writing in cursive. I'm just glad to be a retired teacher, and not enmeshed in the debates!

They're just not teaching cursive in the schools here anymore! SAD!
How will the kiddos manage to read the letters of classic writers?!!
We've done our best to teach our kids...hope others have as well.
