Joyful Sledding on a Snow Day

Although I didn't think I would get to post again before we took off for a few days, here I am.

On the most recent snow day, we had a chance to take the kids out sledding. Actually, they saucered, but you know what I mean.

They had a ball sliding for almost an hour and a half on a cold day. Thankfully, our little hollow was somewhat protected from the winds, so it was quite tolerable. Nevertheless, after standing at the bottom of the hill for an hour, Sue and I retreated to the car for the remainder. We were still able to see the kids from there, so it was all fine and dandy.

When I say we stood at the bottom of the hill, I did take two turns at sliding. Putting the big, unbendable, old me on the saucer was an exercise in futility and hilarity, which you can share in if you decided to watch the video that I am embedding.

Meanwhile, I got a number of kid photos that I quite like.

First the video (almost 2 minutes), and then the photos.

The kids are having so much fun. I remember spending hours outside in the snowbanks as a child, and my brother would build snow forts out of snow blocks. Memories.....

Oh what fun! John, you did an admirable job of sledding and that's exactly how I get up- roll and rise!

Such joy! I wouldn't mind joining them, but I think that once my body hits the ground the first time I wouldn't be able to get up anymore! Better get in shape first.

Brings back memories of when I was a child and we would go saucering. I loved it. Now my limbs are too big for the small dish and my bones are too fragile. You did get some perfect photos.

Such a good time. I especially liked the "I can't get up!" Totally there with ya, John! (Smile face)
We haven't had enough snow to even get out the sleds this year. Maybe next winter.

Two words came to my mind as I laughed out loud at the video, then looked at the snaps ...more than once...
PRICELESS ... UNFORGETTABLE!!!!

There is nothing like the squeal of happy laughter from children....not to mention how fabulous they smell after being outside on a cold winter day. My mom used to say she loved to smell the frost on us!!!!

Thanks for sharing---brought me back to when I was that age -- always LOVED winter.

Boy that brings back memories - of my sons when they were kidlets and even my own childhood days. My dad had a "movie camera" back in the day, and somewhere (probably at my sister's place) there's footage of the two of us on toboggans down Mt. Royal. We're so lucky to have these seasons. Wonderful photos of these two. :)

As a high school teacher I know I enjoyed the snow days as much as the kids...:)

Last time I did that I put my back out when a large child landed on top of me at the end of the run.... so perhaps my sledding and saucering days are over. Looks like huge fun!
