Winter Fun

A few days ago, the kids began to build a little snow fort on the front lawn by rimming an area with some chunks of snow. ↓

The next day, I decided to help by digging the floor down. ↓

I left a little ledge where they could sit and have their after school snack (a little later).

This weekend, we are experiencing an abundance of rain, so the fort has been pretty diminished. However, we had some fun making it, and it will snow again before Old Man Winter is done with us.

Absolutely pouring with rain here! Not to worry about the snow fort, I'm sure there will be more opportunity!

Oh, to be that age again, and outside playing in the snow!!!
One thing I love about winter is the smell of the cold and frost on someone who just comes in from outside!

Memories of my youth. We built forts over our heads against the snow fences in Colorado. We then iced the insides with water and I remember they too some time to thaw!

i remember that good, cold air in your lungs and pinking up your cheeks as you played in snow. :)

Sweet fun!
Down here in the South, we make our winter forts out of bales of hay.

Your grands always seem to be so happy together. So good to see.

Your grands will remember this forever! When I was young and lived in Goose Bay, my father helped us kids build a snow fort and a small ice rink. I can close my eyes right now and see it plain as day. Good times are never forgotten. Have a super day!

SO jealous. Snow. You actually have snow. And, yes, I wish we had some. Just one flake. Thus far--NOTHING. Oh, we have fog. We have record breaking temps--that would be HIGH temps.
And no snow.

The photos in your last entry and in this one remind me so much of how it was when I was growing up ... in Massachusetts. It's lost it's lure for me now but I think how lucky your little ones are that you can still enjoy it all with them.

We used to do the same when growing up in NJ as the backyard of my famiky home was quite large and there was more than enough snow for several snow forts.

Well, the rain stopped, and now we have loads of snow. I saw a piece on the TV news about someone who had built a plastic frame rather like a big laundry basket to use for building snow forts and igloos so that the snow roof would not collapse onto the kids, brilliant idea!

Looks like fun! I hope you got more snow yesterday so the fort building can begin anew. (We got way more than was forecasted! No, not a LOT but I will have to get the shovel out again!)
