Saturday at the Mill of Kintail

Company came on the weekend: Sue's niece and her daughter, whom we haven't seen for a very long time. We managed to keep one another quite busy. We spent a good chunk of Saturday at the Mill of Kintail, and headed out to Wheelers Maple Sugar Camp on Sunday.

Naturally, I took many people photos, but I am going to concentrate on those that appeal to me more photographically today. Either Sue or I or both will get around to the people component later this week although a few will make the cut into this post.

This collection is from our visit to the Mill of Kintail, mostly from inside the old Tait McKenzie residence.

A section of the parlour with the grand piano: above in colour; below done as an antique photo.

Among other accomplishments, Tait McKenzie was a sculptor and some of his work is displayed upstairs. Our guests, Andrea and Frances, are sitting on a windowsill by one of his medallion-like pieces. A model of the house sits below the sculpture (if that is the right word).

Below: later in the day, JJ wanted to go back for another visit. In this photo, he sits patiently on the stairs while I snap a few photos. We soon climbed those stairs — for the second time that day,

I took the above shot of Andrea outside. I had wandered across the river to try to get a picture, and all I got was her walking away, but I kind of like it.

Finally, a photo similar to the first one but it was an HDR blend of three photos, so it was arrived at differently, even though it looks much the same.

What a great place to bring visitors. I absolutely loved the antique treatment of the first photo. Beautiful scene of Andrea walking up the steps.

The one of JJ on the stairs is my favourite. Peaceful. Patient. Even pensive. And the shot of Andrea as she walks away is also good. The loosestrife in the foreground adds a nice touch. It's pretty, but apparently an invasive menace.

Isn't it fun to enhance the photos in a photoshop account? That last picture is so interesting. I'd love to visit the site, for sure. Your guests are quite lovely.

Love the shot of JJ but all are great. Makes me want to go out and purchase a DSLR camera and learn about HDR.

They're beautiful, Uncle John. Thanks for sharing them!

...I may steal a few. Let me know if you'd rather I didn't.
