Remembering Asha

We received an emotional call from a distraught little girl last night. Her cat, Asha, died at the vet's office. She was old and not well, and it was her time, but it is not easy for a child to lose a pet -- or even an adult for that matter. Both kids were highly upset when we got there. JJ calmed down soon, but poor Dania was in a state for hours. She would gain control and then subside into anguish once again. I think, however, she was ready to sleep when we left. I was lying with her, and she kissed me good night and rolled over.

These were pics that I snapped just last week.

Even I have a tear in my eye...as one who lost my best friend Susie (cocker spaniel)the loss of a pet is a devastating event and to this day I remember her with love. Big hugs to the kids <3

Awww, AC--tough times. I am sure it hurts you & grandma too to try to comfort your sweet grandchildren. A pet's death is often the first up close experience with death. Makes it hard to explain.
Perhaps in time there will be room in their lives for a new kitten--so many need homes. But right now, it is SPECIFICALLY Asha that is being grieved for and missed.

I know how they feel. It is hard to loose a pet at whatever age. And so sorry about Asha.

So sorry to hear about the loss of the pet, but I love the image of you lying down with her!

I am sorry for the loss of the pets of children any time. They form a bond where we adults just don't fit in. Much the same when adults bond with a pet. We had Daisy, for a short while, when she began going blind. She had early onset canine diabetes. The vet recommended that we spare her the indignity that would follow. It was a hard thing for both of us to let her go. My heart goes out to your grands at their loss.

It is fine to be able to offer comfort.

An important life lesson and nice that you were important enough to be there.

I'm so sorry. We made a decision when Sterling had to be put down that we wouldn't get another. We have a lot of sculptural cats tho.

How lucky Danica is to have you go out of your way to comfort her. I think it's hard at any age when a beloved pet dies.

That is such a hard lesson for a child to learn ... thank goodness they both have such loving parents and grandparents to ease the way.

Sad to read and also as former cat and dog owners who have lost beloved pets we offer our condolences.

So sorry to hear this news. It brings back memories of my childhood losses. And, as you say, it is hard as an adult too. Condolences.

Ohhh, so so sorry. This is hard to face no matter how old one is. How sweet that you lay with her. What a beautiful memory for you both. And how wonderful to have these pics.

Oh I'm so sorry that your family lost this furry loved one. It's difficult for everyone, I'm sure. Danica does every thing with such gusto that I don't doubt her feelings of sorrow are likewise. I'm sorry the kidlets.. and everyone are hurting.
