An Outing for Cuppa ...

... and Multitudinous Cane Sightings for Anvilcloud

After several exceedingly sickly days, the lady felt in need of a short visit with the grands yesterday, so out we went.

We stopped for coffee on the way, and I experienced something that struck me a little odd. One doesn't seem to see many canes these days: at least I don't or don't notice them. The guy in front of me at the coffee shop had a cane, but I didn't think anything of it. Except when I turned around, didn't the guy directly behind me have one too. I made mention to Cuppa when I climbed back in the car that I just found it to be a rather occurrence unique.

Cuppa had a little visit with her grandchildren and was able to see Zach walk on his own for the first time. The little guy was happy to see her and waved merrily: "Hi Amma!"

The girl spent a lot of time listening to Waltz Across Texas, while concurrently watching the graphics and drawing. Talk about multitasking. I still find it remarkable how she often sits quietly for such a long time while listening to music.

It was soon time for Cuppa to come home for a nap, and Buppa went out for a long walk: on which he saw three more people with canes. What was up with the canes yesterday?

My grandmother used to need a cane and I still do see people with one (especially on 'old people's trips'), but I think the advances made in hip surgery especially have made the use of canes quite obsolete. Mind you, we do see a lot of walkers and small sit-down-scooters nowadays. And those people would likely have used a cane without those aids.

Odd indeed AC. I don't see canes as much anymore either. Perhaps they are making a comeback! What goes around, comes around!

I would just say it is the company you are keeping. Maybe you have a fear of needing one and you take a look when you see one, thinking, could that one day be me. That is what I think.I love Cuppa's hair cut.
Very fashionable looking.

First of all that is a great picture of Cuppa! She looks sensational.

Secondly, after all the time I've spent people watching in the lobby of the PMH, I don't even notice cans any more.

Maybe there was a sale on somewhere?

I have a female friend who is over 80. She was a very fashionable lady all her life and she has 6 canes in different colors. Every day she makes her choice of what cane to carry ... depending on how it matches her outfit.

Ah I have to confess, I have a cane which I do have to use some days....it's okay though, it's better than falling down and it does look smashing with my winter coat....LOL
So glad cuppa felt well enough to visit the grandchildren, it is not a nice thing not feeling well.
Jboy and smudge are beautiful as always......:-) Hugs

That's a really nice picture of Cuppa, and of the kids too.

My Dad used to have a great collection of walking sticks (I presume that's what you call canes), and would always take one on his walks. There was one with a little glass vial hidden inside for whiskey, and I've got one of his that's so long it's as high as my chin and has a horn top.

AC, I have noticed more people using canes lately. My great-grandmother used one and so did her son, my grandfather. Aunt May used one after the surgery to repair her hip, but before she died had to give up the cane for a walker.

I have my great-grandmother's cane. It is nothing like the ones we see today. At least I have one on hand if hubby or I should need it.

Blessings,
Mary

The right cane can be quite an attractive accessory. Or spanking stick.

Those babies are growing up!
