Unmentionables

This is not a meme, but I suppose it could become one.

I bought unmentionables this week. Six pairs (I guess they're pairs because they have two legways). I'm sure you were just dying to hear about my unmentionables. Admit it.

Actually, I mention my unmentionables because the topic does tend to reveal some of my quirkiness.

For one thing, I buy six pairs at a time. Basically, it's out with the old and in with the new. Mind you, it was well past time to out the old. Shoulda done it months ago ... unless I wanted to join the clergy and be as holey as possible.

I will possibly hang onto a pair or two of the less-holey specimens in case of a laundry emergency, but for the most part I'm done wif em.

I do the same with socks: buy six pair and discard most of the rest. It's a quirk. I suppose I feel certain sense of orderliness by doing it this way ... or something akin to orderliness, perhaps. I dunno, it just seems right.

But that's not all. I carefully rotate said garments. Actually, that's not true. I don't do it all that carefully (I'm not that obsessive doncha know?), but if x pair come back from the wash while y pair are still in the drawer, I usually make sure to pick up the y pair and place the x pair underneath. That way, they'll be likely to wear at something approximating the same rate.

Again, I'm not sure what this says about me, and I almost cringe to ponder what dear readers might be thinking right now. But I simply am driven to wonder and ask if anyone else is possessed by a similar habit. You could comment or better still run with the idea in your very own up and personal blog space. Let me know one way or t'other. Will ya?

I don't rotate so much with socks and underware as I do with bedsheets, towels, dish towels etc. Hmm, come to think of it, I rotate my canned goods, too. And my couch cushions when I vacuum, you know, so those deep pockets where our derriers sit look more even.

As for in with the old, and out with the new, I just bought a bunch of new socks because my collection is rather holey, but I can't bear to throw away a clean, laundered pair and have been slowly working my way through my old pairs with the holes and then throwing them out at the end of the day.

Also? It is highly likely that almost our entire cleaning rag collection is made from my husbands old holey boxer-briefs. :)

I once thought of making a quilt out of all my husbands old t-shirts, in an effort to get as much wear as possible out of them. They were the most ghastly prints, though, and were ultimately used as cleaning rags. However, I did make a quilt out of my daughter's high school activity shirts. Concerts, soccer, youth clubs...it was quite memorable, and she took it to college to keep warm.

I shudder to think of how I've regarded underwear over the years...too busy to even match the socks.

I assume you are talking about, what we used to call, "long johns". Luckily I am in the South and that no longer applies!
However, old socks are another story. My sons used to throw theirs out but I collect them. They are wonderful for the "rag bag" and have a myriad of uses.

LOL, I find it rather endearing.

It's hard to keep up with laundry around here. Sometimes I have to search for a pair in the dryer!

Living in such a small space, we have a rule about nothing in without something similar out. Buying by the half-dozen would make that rule even more efficient.

But A/C .. Is it briefs or boxers we're discussing here? Not that it would make a difference to the order of rotation, necessarily, but we're dying to know.

Gads...another fun post...what are we gonna do with you???lololol
Hubby likes that I roll his unmentionables and then put them away in the drawer. Neat and tidy and Very military (he was Air Force) As for rotation...If they get the least bit "scraggley", I discard said "undies"...and replace with new ones. I'm the watchdog of "unmentionables"...it is my duty...my life. LOLFunny

I really hooted when I read this because there has been a big debate (highlighted in the media) about men's unmentionables. Jeremy Paxman (TV presenter) started it off by having an issue about the support provided!! He buys his underwear from Marks & Spencer's (well known UK dept store)as do most of us. Today I was reading this

Well, I haven't been around to blogs in FOREVER, and what a day to come back! I just about fell off my chair I laughed so hard! I truly needed this, A/C, thsnkd.

"unless I wanted to join the clergy and be as holey as possible."

...love the word play!

Lots to catch up on, but I'll send you a quick email to start. Glad you're still blogging!

That would be a most efficient way to restock necessary items--but I just get them when the old ones get too worn out!

We have far more cast-off unmentionables than wear-able unmentionables in our house.
I don't know what it is about throwing them away--I always seem to have a need for them in ANOTHER form.
Dust cloths, shoe shine rags, oil-changing rags, silver-polishing rags.
We have bags and bags and bags of rags.
(so I leave you with another meme idea...what can't you throw away?)

Interesting topic indeed! My problem is just a bit different in that I seldom throw anything out until my Spice mentions it several times (none dare call it nagging). I seem to be better about tossing shorts than socks - not sure why. ec

I too am a buyer of six at a time.. but there the similarity ends. I tend to toss them in and pull them out. Any with noticeable holiness are tossed one step further. :-)

Dang. This is one of those posts that elicits comments that are as entertaining as the post itself.

I hope you'll follow up on Nina's meme idea. What CAN'T you throw away.
