In the Mud

After having probably my first eight hour sleep in weeks last night, I dragged myself out of bed this morning, early enough to hit the bikes by 9:00. But I didn't much feel like it, and neither did Cuppa. We used the weather as an excuse: hot, humid, windy, cloudy, smog alert. Thanks goodness we had a handy excuse because I wouldn't have felt like it no matter what.

I'm not sure why, but lately I feel as though I am dragging myself through mud. Our last ride wasn't terribly long, but it was quite the slog: difficult to keep churning leaden legs. Even on rest days around the house, I have little energy.

Do you go through low energy cycles too, or am I just an old poop? My sleep has been off; my legs have no spring; I feel weighted down. It's as though I'm attempting to ambulate through thick mud. I don't make much progress in mud, and I feel kind of vulnerable too.

Doesn't seem too hard to understand you'd be in a low energy cycle when you're in the middle of moving. Seems you're dealing with a different set of emotional and physical challenges than in a normal day, so why wouldn't that take its toll on your body?

But yes, in answer to your question, I DO go through low spots too. It took me forever to cycle home yesterday - a real dilly-dallying kind of day.

That weather alone is enough to drag anyone down.

From one old poop to another, welcome to the club.

Oh yes. I totally have those periods where it's hard just to keep moving.

I'm with Heather, perhaps the move is taking a bigger toll on you than you are aware of and your body is trying to tell you something?

Ah well, nothing like armchair psychiatry.

I get this way every single time that I am forced to "let go" of some thing or some body. I'm trudging through sludge myself lately. Godspeed to you :)

It's the weather, AC. I don't feel like going outside at all. Be gentle with yourself.

Expect low cycles and allow yourself to have them. You've been doing a lot lately. Moving is hard work emotionally and physically and sorting through all your stuff really just adds to this and the weather doesn't help.

Give your self a break and if your enegry doesn't return, try doing something totally fun and completely impractical. That usually puts the spring back in my step.
